Closed-cell polyethylene foam is one of the most widely-used materials in general for padded elements destined for use in an outdoor marine environment.
It is light, does not absorb water, does not rot and floats, so it can be used on the sundeck as a life raft, a safe floating hold that is always close to hand.
Nowadays it may be said that if a sundeck does not have an inner closed-cell polyethylene core, it cannot be called a sundeck.
